William

As much as I like taking portraits, I generally suffer from a chronic lack of willing subjects. My nephew Will visited for a few days recently, so I jumped on the chance to take some shots. I won’t go so far as to say he was a willing subject – after the window reflection shot below, he turned to me and said ‘can you please stop taking photos of me?‘ – but he was a little more willing than most. Below are a couple of Christmas shots, followed by some portraits taken out and about in Brisbane – at the State Library, Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Museum.

Help Portrait – Can You Help?

On December 5th, I’ll be joining a group of local Brisbane photographers, editors, makeup artists, printers and volunteers participating in Help Portrait, a global movement of people who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate.

The idea behind Help Portrait is to ‘give’ photos rather than take them – the participants are given a free portrait and print on the day and the photographers never use the photos for their own gain (in their portfolios, on their websites, etc). This year, we’re working with Lifeline, Red Cross and the Wesley Mission, and giving free portraits and prints to the clients and volunteers of these charities.

We’ve been lucky enough to be provided with a studio for the day, but not so fortunate to secure any sponsorship for expenses like printing paper and ink, food for the participants on the day and venue clean-up costs. If you’d like to help out by throwing in a few dollars here, or using the widget below, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
