The Golden Orb Web Spider is the largest spider species found in Brisbane. They are common in bushes and gardens, where they build very large and strong yellow silk orb webs. Despite it's appearance, the Golden Orb-Weaver is considered non-agressive and not very toxic, but it can cause necrotising arachnitism, which is the ulceration and loss of skin around a bite site. I didn't notice it when taking the shot, but the tiny spider up above is the male of the species, which is generally only around a quarter of the size of the female.
