Kookaburra

Hanging out in a popular picnic area on Stradbroke Island seems to have made this Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) pretty comfortable with people. I was able to get to within about a metre or two for this shot. He was probably waiting for me to feed him.

• So rewarding when wildlife ‘complies’ like that. Makes me wonder what they think we are about with that bug-like thing pushed to our face! Good study, this one.

• What a great shot!! It's hard to tell from this shot how big these birds are, but I'm guessing about the size of a large robin?
