Montage celebrates its first birthday today. I got close, but didn't quite manage 365 photos - this is number 338. Thanks to all my regular, and not so regular, visitors for your comments and inspiration. With this milestone approaching, I've spent the last few days wondering why I bother with this thing. If it was for recognition and accolades then I would have given up long ago. I've been on a bit of a roll lately, with a few featured images here and there (including another one in Weekly Shot's 'trees' theme overnight), but it doesn't seem to result in the same amount of visitors and comments as many other photoblogs. Some of which, frankly, I think Montage is better than. Anyway, as I said, recognition and glory isn't the main reason I started this thing, so onto Year 2.

  There are many reasons why I think you keep doing it. One of course is that you are very good at it.
  I guess a part of it is recognition. Perhaps not recognition in the form of awards or number of site visitors but for the comments and feedback that helps you improve. That is why I have just set up my site. You don't know if you are getting better if you keep your work to yourself. I have watched this site grow from image 1 up to today and it is worth it. Well done.

• Dude, I'm a regular visitor, and what you wrote today could well have been my 1st year b-day post a month ago.. I don't worry about how many people visit, or how many comments I get anymore, I found that being able to look back and see what you have done in the past year and how you have learned is far more valuable than all the visitors in the world..

• This is a cool little blog you've got going Heath. It has inspired me to go buy the SLR that I always wanted. I think a lot of blogs maybe start slowly but the longer you keep at the more likely it is that things may reach a kind of critical mass and take off. So I hope you keep it up. I'm really busy but I try to visit every now and then to look what you've been photographing. Ciao!
