Sprawl

I obviously don't have as big a lens as some people, so I thought I'd turn the lack of detail in this shot into another panorama. This one is looking east from Mount Coot-tha over the city. I remember studying urban planning at university and being told that Brisbane is the largest city, in terms of land area, in the world. Not sure if that's true, but the sprawl is certainly evident in this shot.

  Looking at this you'd kinda think it was the biggest or one of the biggest in the world! Lot of coloured lights, always make for energetic contrasty images, this is another good one of Brisbanes cityscape by night light.

• Somehow I think Brisbane is a long way from being the largest city. Maybe when the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast all join into one big string...

• Yes Brisbane City Council (local government authority) administers one of the world's largest city land areas (1367km^2), and one of the world's largest council budget (AU$1.4 billion). Most other cities are made up of a conglomeration of smaller councils, As Brisbane CC itself was until 1925 when 20 councils amalgamated to form it.

  However AFAIK Brisbane itself is not the world's largest city, even if you consider the suburbs adjoinging it in neighbouring council areas.
