Australia seems to have two default naming options. Call something "Great" - Great Ocean Road, Great Australian Bight, Great Sandy Desert, Great North Walk, Great Barrier Reef - or call something by it's size, or distance from another place - 19 Mile Beach, 9 Mile Beach, 1 Mile Beach, Six Mile Road, Seventeen Mile Rocks. The lists go on.
This is 18 Mile Swamp, a freshwater swamp cought between the dune system that runs almost the lentgh of Stradbroke Island. The water is fresh, and is pumped from here and used as the water supply for the Redland Shire back on the mainland.
