Road Trip

It’s all starting to come together.

Over the last few months, I’ve been having vague thoughts about a photo expedition. Somewhere reasonably remote, where I can get back to doing some landscape work. As it happens, my wife Kylie is heading to Adelaide for a conference in November. Of course, she’s flying, but I’ve decided to rent a camper and take 10-ish days to drive from Brisbane to Adelaide, via outback NSW. Here’s the proposed route:

I’ve secured two-and-a-half weeks off from the day job, and have started putting the feelers out for some corporate sponsorship for the trip. Telstra have already come to the party, agreeing to provide a Next-G wireless broadband card for the duration. This will allow me to post photos, and blog and tweet updates from the road – you’ll be able to follow along with the hashtag #photoadventure2010. I’ve also approached a company that owns a couple of the major campervan hire companies and the initial response from them was promising. I think I’ve made them a pretty attractive offer (photos for their stock library, mention of their support in blog posts and exhibition materials), so here’s hoping.

If that comes through, I’ll save up to a couple of thousand dollars on the trip. Which is, of course, leading me to think of where else I could spend that money. Today’s thoughts are leaning toward getting some lighting gear and doing some portraits along the way. We’ll see.

Oh, what was that you said? Exhibition? That’s the plan. In early 2011, I’m planning to exhibit some of the photos from the trip. I’ll be sure to keep you updated on when and where.
